Christmas update

It's coming towards the end of my first term of third year, which has gone incredibly quick. I've been working on lots of projects non of which I will be publishing anywhere yet. But keep an eye on my portfolio in the coming weeks/months. I've been designing the branding and packaging of a particular cider which I believe deserved a new face. I have also been working on one of the D&AD briefs which has been very challenging and am still yet to crack. Ontop of that I have also been working on a number of smaller projects. I have been developing a series of four book covers based on a deck of cards which explore the use of typography and symbolism. I have also designed my friends business card which he used and took to a geology conference in London. There are a bunch of other projects I would like to pick up but they're just not enough hours in the day.

In other news I re-designed my logo. The old and the new logo are compared below.

This launched on my website last night. I believed the old logo had become a bit school-ish and wasn't reflecting how I was progressing as a designer. I am hoping the new logo delivers a slightly more professional message, while retaining the fun side to my work with the use of the playful yet elegant typeface. The typeface is an edited version of Lobster which you can download here. Lobster is a script typeface which makes use of some very poetic and flowing ligatures, but unfortunately the typeface doesn't come with a ligature which links an A and W which is what I worked on here. I have also given my blog a facelift and have applied the logo to my twitter account.

In other news... it is very cold. Falmouth fell victim to a small storm at the start of the week, there was thunder, lightning, hail, snow and even rumours of a small tornado. You can see photos of it here and here. I don't usually make a habit of talking about the weather on my blog, but this was a truly bizarre start to the week which resulted in falmouth almost grinding to halt. I don't think the south west is used to this sort of weather. Here is a photo out of my window of the event.

Delacoe.co.uk

Just finished my second week of third year, and already the work load is piling up. But in my spare time I've been working on my lovely girlfriend's blog. CamillaDelacoe.co.uk features reviews on recently released films, music and general stories of a student journalist. I also put together her twitter background, nothing too major but just a little bit of fun.

'Daily Chalk' and Mr Fillion

My friend and housemate Hannah has started up a little blog called "Hannah's Daily Chalk". We moved into our new house this summer and the previous tennants left a chalk board nailed to the back of the kitchen door. Hannah has taken it upon herself to doodle a new drawing on the chalk board everyday and has this blog to show what happens. Funny stuff, go check it out.

In other news I am now a huge fan of Nathan Fillion since my girlfriend introduced me to the american guess who done it show "Castle". My love for Nathan only grew more when after buying Halo Reach (which I have been nerding out on for the last week) and realised Nathan voiced one of the characters, and has done in the previous Halo games also. How cool is that! My two loves for Castle and Halo united!

Aaaaanyway. I start third year of university tomorrow. Wish me luck!

End of Summer

So the summer hols are coming to an end, booo. But I'm looking forward to the new term, if not a little bit daunted at the thought of entering the third and final year of university.

Today we finally got the internet put in our new house which we moved into over summer. The house is awesome! I'm growing carrots in our garden (we have a garden!), even though it is the completely wrong time of year to grow them, but I'm going to try anyway. In other news my online portfolio is offline, which is very bad, you may notice the website www.adamwitton.co.uk just comes up with a rather annoying "database not installed". I am hoping to correct this over the next couple of weeks with a snazzy new website showing some of my latest work  including some of the work I did while working at Nixon.

I've been bouncing between Cornwall, Wales and the Midlands through most of the holidays visiting family and friends and spending lots of money on fuel as I go which has been lots of fun :) unfortunately not leaving me much time to work and do general designing of things, but I'm correcting this as we speak!

Keep an eye on this blog, as term starts up again and I start getting out of the lazy holiday state of mind and more into the work my ass off im a third year now mentality this blog should be bursting with interesting work and illustrations and other stuff.

Peace out.

Been There, Done That, Got The Blisters

A week or so ago I finished my placement at Nixon, they kept me on an extra week which was good of them. I ended up working on some pretty interesting projects some of which have worked they're way into my portfolio. I am hoping to go back and do more work for them this summer, so fingers crossed. Ontop of that I have just finished my second year in university studying Graphic Design, I am now a big scary third year! lol

In other news I just completed an epic hike of the cornish coastline with my mate Chris Lambert. We walked from Falmouth to The Lizard in just under 3 days. Was good fun even though I did the entire walk in flip flops. Saw lots of interesting sites and met some cool people, here are some photos of our expedition.

Multi-Colour

A design I did a couple of weeks ago for the NBC Universal project I was working on, this version is just the artwork with all the comercial bits taken out.

The image is based of a photo I took of the lovely Camilla Delacoe.

I wanted a new red t-shirt...

I wanted a new red t-shirt with a cool design on it without paying through the nose, so I made this, put it on red bubble and just bought it :p

In other news my placement at Nixon is going well, working on lots of interesting projects, although a I now hate pantone books... which one, which one!!!!!

Universal, Nixon and other stuff

Yesterday I started my work placement at Nixondesign which is going well, so far I've put together some brand guide line documents which was good practice. It's  my first time working in a design company so I'm hoping I will learn lots of new skills and other cool stuff!

Last week I went to London with Graham Hadaway, Luke Morgan and Alex Allden to pitch a design solution to NBC Universal. Possibly one of the most terrifying experiences of my life but in the end it wasn't that bad. Met some really cool people and had a lot of fun. I'll post up some of the work from the pitch sooner or later.

Earlier this week the DROP exhibition went as planned and apparently was an amazing event. I'm waiting for PBK9 to publish photos of the event.

Below is the result of what happens when a creative gets bored with a messy desk in front of them.

And here is something stupid i came up with in a slight moment of insanity

PBK9 DROP_Exhibition

One of my designs will be exhibited by the Swiss design team PBK9 in a street art exhibition in Switzerland, Lausanne. The event looks awesome with DJ sets and a live graffiti wallpainting and lots of other crazy stuff! Unfortunately I won't be able to go myself but If you're close to Lausanne in Switzerland it would deffinately be worth a visit!

Expect to see photos of the event!

The exhibition opens on the 1st may.

Old Logo's

I was clearing out the depths of my hard disc and found some old logo stuff. These were concepts for a student magazine.

And this was a concept for a cd cover.

And here's some cool photos of my mate Chris jumping over a crevasse.

Update - February 2010

Hello world! Just given my website a new look, was getting a bit bored of the colour scheme. A nice white and red thing going on now.

Also found Flavors.me which is a cool site where you can create little portfolios and stuff.

Been working on lots of really cool projects, some of which Im not allowed to talk about, oooo, Im not even sure if Im allowed to say that Im not allowed to talk about it. I'll stop now. But this summer is going to be a very exciting time :D

Still not got much finished projects yet but heres some interesting random images ive found.
